Blog #1- BVS I Was Made To Love You

In the episode "I Was Made To Love You," an odd but attractive woman, April, gets out of a cab and starts wondering around the town. As she's walking around Sunnydale she is asking almost everyone that she comes in contact with where her boyfriend Waren is. When Buffy comes in contact with April, she realizes that April is a robot. Buffy finds out who Waren is and goes to find him to figure out why there is a robot going around town looking for him. Waren then tells Buffy that he wanted to make a robot that was the "perfect girlfriend" for him. Shortly after Waren creates April he finds a real girlfriend and leaves April alone in his dorm room, which causes her to go out and try to find Waren because that is all she knows how to do. The episode "I Was Made To Love You" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, shows that humans can be or create monsters by falling in love.

The monster in this episode is April, the robot. April looks like a normal college girl, she is tall and skinny with long brown hair. She walks like an average woman but she does sort of talk like a robot. She talks very stiff and doesn't express any emotion besides happiness, except when another woman talks about Waren. When she gets angry, she gets very angry; she will throw people across the room or even try to really hurt and kill them.

I believe that April is monstrous because of how she acts and responds to humans. She has one thing on her mind that she wants, and its Waren. If anyone tries to disagree with her or stop her, she acts out in a very harmful and abnormal way. She is an average looking girl until she acts out. At the very end of the episode, Buffy tries to stop April from killing Warens new girlfriend, and April goes back at Buffy and tries to kill her. I also believe that April is a monster because she was created by something. Most monsters are essentially created by something for a certain purpose. April was created to fulfill Warens needs for love. Overall, April is a monster in disguise.

April relates to larger social issues by being hypnotized by love. In our society, love is glamorized and feels like a need in our lives. I think that when someone is in love they believe they are meant to be with that person for the rest of their lives. Waren built April because he wanted to be able to have the perfect girlfriend, the perfect personality, the perfect looks and someone who would do anything and everything for him. Everyone wants to be able to have that person. Some times people are so busy trying to find love or focusing on love that they forget about the other important things in their lives. I also believe that there are very controlling people in love. Waren wanted to be able to control the person he was with, and that's another reason why he made April. If someone is in a relationship, they expect that their partner should do and agree with everyone they say or do. Unfortunately, that's not how love is supposed to happen.

In conclusion, this episode does offers a new perspective about being monstrous. A new perspective could be, the monster is some one who you would never expect. Both Waren and April were the monsters in this episode and they were both in disguise.
