Serial Killer Ted Bundy

Being one of the most famous criminals in America during the late 20th century, Ted Bundy was a serial murderer and rapist. According to the biography of him on Biography.com, Bundy was born November 24, 1946 in Virginia from his mother Eleanor, who was extremely religious and unmarried. To hide this secret from everyone, Bundy was adopted and raised by his grandparents and always thought that his mother was his sister. As a child, Bundy was amazed by knives and grew up to have a darker side of his personality. In interviews Bundy said he remembered being anti social as a teenager and often looked in dumpsters for pornography trash. He as well was caught looking in open windows around the neighborhood at women getting changed in their homes.

While being a student at the University of Washington, he fell in love with a classy, wealthy women, and was later torn over their break up. Many of his victims were very similar to this girlfriend, they were attractive young women students with long brown hair. His murder rampage started in 1974, when women started going missing in Oregon and Seattle and were last seen with a man named Ted. Later that year, Bundy moved to Utah to attend law school, and young women started going missing there as well. He would pretend to be injured with casts or he would even dress up and pretend to be authority figures such as police officers, and firefighters; all to gain his victims trust. Once he got them into his car, he would strike the women with a crowbar or pipe and then handcuff them so they couldn’t escape. In his car, he removed the passenger seat so that when he drives to where he is going to rape and murder the victims, he could lay the women down so that no one would be able to see the victim inside the car. Before and often after murdering the victim, he would rape and strangle them.

Before Bundy was convicted, there was many suspicions from people that knew the victims or just in the community that he was the one doing it. On crimemusuem.org, Bundy's biography state that police always ruled him out because he was a law student and had a great appearance. Bundy was arrested and convicted in 1975 for the kidnapped of Carol DaRonch, she escaped from his kidnapping. He received a one to fifteen year sentence; then later he pretended to be his own lawyer and escaped. In 1977, he escaped from custody again by making a whole in his jail cell and climbing through. Within the 15 hours it took for security to notice his escape, he traveled to Florida. On January 14,1978, Bundy broke into a sorority house at Florida State University. He attacked four young women and killed two of them. On one of the sorority girls body, there was bite marks, which was a positive match to Bundy. About one month later, Bundy kidnapped and murdered 12 year old Kimberly Leach. This was the end of his murder rampage; he was pulled over by police later in the month of February. When Bundy was convicted for these crimes, he was given the death penalty three times. Bundy was executed on January 24, 1989 in the electric chair.
