Early Life:

Jeffrey Dahmer as a teenager.

One of the most notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer, was born on May 21st, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According to the biography on Biography.com, he was said to be an energetic and happy child. Due to surgery to correct a double hernia at an early age, moving around constantly, and the birth of his younger brother, Dahmer grew up to be a very withdrawn boy with basically no friends. It was said he had a bad drinking problem causing him to drop out of college and quite a few arrests for him in his 20's such as disorderly conduct, indecent exposure, and an accusation from two boys saying he masturbated in front of them resulting in probation.


The Murders:

Dahmers murders occurred from 1978 to 1991. According to Biography.com his first murder was right after graduating high school. His first victim was a hitch hiker, Steven Hicks. After reading an article from the New York Times it was found that Dahmer was arrested on Monday July 22, 1991 when a man wearing handcuffs escaped Dahmers apartment and told the police Dahmer tried to murder him. When police arrived to the scene Dahmer allowed them inside where they found photographs of mutilated bodies and a refrigerator with three human heads inside. Dahmer did not put up a fight with police, he was very cooperative.

Modus Operandi:

From 1978 to 1991 Dahmer murdered 17 men. According to the New York Times in each case Dahmer would invite each victim back to his apartment, sometimes offering to photograph them. After this he would get them drunk while slipping them a "sleeping potion". After this he would strangle them and then dismember them. After this was all done he would keep their body parts in a vat, freezer or refrigerator. Sometimes he would boil their heads to remove the flesh so he could keep their skulls. All of his victims were African American males. It was also believed cannibalism was involved in the cases. John Paul Ranieri met Dahmer in a tavern a month before he was caught and said Dahmer hated homosexuals and blacks and had a drinking problem.


Summary of crimes

From the information on Biography.com, Dahmers first murder was right after high school in June 1978 involving a hitch hiker Steven Hicks. After this he enlisted into the Army in December of 1978. He was sent to Germany and after he was discharged in 1981, German authorities looked into connections between Dahmer and murders that happened around the area Dahmer was living in at that time. After being discharged Dahmer began getting into trouble with the law due to his drinking issues. Dahmer began his murdering again in 1987. By 1989 he was on trial for child molestation and was given one year of prison then probation. After getting out of prison he continued his killing spree. In May 1991 a neighbor saw an Asian boy running naked in the street and called the police. The boy was incoherent so they believed Dahmer when he said the boy was his 19 year old lover. The police escorted them home where Dahmer proceeded to kill the boy. He killed four more boys by the time he was finally arrested on July 22, 1991.

Dahmers Death

Dahmer was murdered on November 28th, 1994 by another inmate. The New York times says that inmate Christopher Scarver, who was arrested for murder and robbery, was working with Dahmer and another inmate, Jesse Anderson, on cleaning duty. The guards left the three men unattended for twenty minutes. During this time Dahmer was killed and Andersons head was caved in.
